The quota of 10 hours was still used a few decades ago, I clearly remember it being a requirement for being considered "active" to do at least 10 hours, 2 hours for the 'sick and elderly', a servant/elder was supposed to meet at least the congregation average, even more if you wanted to be a 'assistant' pioneer or pioneer before you were ever accepted you already had to do the hours. It was brutal for some.

Attack near St Catherine's Monastery
by Earnest infollowing on from the bombings of coptic churches in egypt, there was an attack earlier this month on a checkpoint near st catherine's monastery.
this monastery dates back to the time of justinian and has a number of early bible mss including part of codex sinaiticus of the fourth century.. i am surprised this hasn't happened before because isis is active in northern sinai and it would be a major event were they to gain access and wreak havoc at st catherine's monastery.
although the isolation of the monastery has contributed to its survival over 1400 years, it is in the forefront of digitising its manuscript collection.

The fact is that if either party really wanted, they could wipe the other leader out. A near-miss is often calculated to either scare the other or drum up support through propaganda.
At this point, even citizens have sufficient potential access to OSINT to pinpoint most leaders of most countries to a scary degree of accuracy between news and cell phone signals and a drone capable of carrying a kg of explosives isn’t expensive either, any actor with $100k-1M worth of resources (and people) could probably accurately assassinate Putin, Zelensky, Khomeini and most lower level politicians.

@Balaamsass: an early assassination of Hitler would have resulted in Goebbels or a more military capable general coming to power. Given the pact between Stalin and Hitler, assume a slightly more military mind decided against crossing the Soviets and focus on the Western front. Forget about Normandy, the only reason that succeeded is because all resources were East. Look at earlier attempts by the Allies to land in Italy.
With such comments you clearly do not understand history, Hitler was elected, people wanted change, people wanted to try this newfangled nationalist socialism, the run up to Hitler was WW1 and globalist socialists attempting to secure peace by loading Germany with debt, reparations and paper promises for hundreds of years of “oppression” in Europe (which the enforcers like France and England were equally guilty of). Sounds familiar?
Without Hitler, you would have still gotten German domination in some way because Germany has always had the resources and their neighbors were weak, you would’ve likely ended up with an overtly anti-Semitic EU-like entity ran by the Germans in 1930 rather than the subtly anti-Semitic EU run by the Germans in 1999.

Europe firing nukes? LOL. They would rather have Ukraine, Poland and Hungary run over than stop getting Russian oil. Europe would freeze to death without Russia, even if you somehow got all of Southern Europe to go along with a war in “the North” they are still outmanned by the Russians, and the majority of reservist personnel in Europe hasn’t ever touched a gun, even the “active” military only trains at best with sidearms or single action rifles because “big guns are scary”. Luckily for Europe, Germany, Finland and the Swiss are ‘properly’ trained although Germany has been limited in capacity after WW2, in the end it would probably be 100k Americans and 100k Europeans vs 2-5M Russians and Chinese IF it ever came to an all out shooting war rather than a proxy war over a (very) small area of Ukraine.

Dinosaur Soft Tissue
by Sea Breeze inback when the dinosaur soft tissue story was broken in 2005, i predicted that that many more soft tissues would be found and that it wouldn't matter if it was supposedly "65 million" years old or "165 million" years old.
the prediction has proven true and dinosaur soft tissue is routinely now found regardless of supposed age.
this is easy to predict using a literal reading of genesis and accepting it as history.... .

I find some of this very amusing. A genetic word doesn’t exist, all genes are expressed with 4 bases, but they don’t form words, as they only allow up to 24 possible combinations.
Putting them together isn’t that complex, some bacteria require just 180-ish protein coding genes with 160,000 base pairs and that’s a very complex life form already. In the lab as low as 60 protein coding genes can be useful for synthetic life forms and then we haven’t talked yet about the things such as viruses that aren’t life forms but still replicate.

Is Global Warming a Sign of the Great Tribulation?

You should be aware the modern term is Global Climate Change, as the evidence for cooling of the 70s and warming of the 90s is equally shaky. The climate is guaranteed to change though, so a great target to make people scared of.
A prophecy would indicate an event before it starts, not be open to interpretation. So if the prophet 2000 years ago states there is global warming, the prophet was false in the Middle Ages during the global ice age and the prophet is false now that we’ve “solved” global warming, as above said, there is some warming in the lower atmosphere and cooling in the upper layers, we don’t really knows what it means but the estimates of 12 years until the end of humanity from well known prophets in the past few decades has been continuous proven wrong

What was really going on with Abel? Does anyone find the story of Cain and Abel screwed up.
by liam inever wonder about the story of cain and abel?
why did jehovah like abel's sacrifice more than cain's?
maybe there's a subtle reason why jehovah likes animal sacrifices.

Most of the stories in the Bible didn’t actually happen, so taking them literally is pointless. I’ve heard some good and bad explanations on the story. Take it as a moral story, Abel according to the story is a good person and things go well for him, and for whatever reason it doesn’t go well for Cain and God warns Cain to master his sin and then he too will be accepted. Instead of emulating the ideal of Abel, he goes and kills the thing he should become. And there is a lot of depth in that, these stories have been written and rewritten over thousands of years, distilling ideas about the nature of man, about sin, murder, living together, civilization and conflicts etc.
The original language is very interesting because the names all have meanings, some of the words have double meanings and probably a lot of commentary on it has been lost, so our translations are relatively poor as we don’t get the context fully.
And I agree with some of the others here, since about the Victorian era, we in the West have quite literally been coddled when it comes to the realities of humans. Veganism/vegetarianism is a luxury, back then, everyone’s best would have to be meat in order to ‘sacrifice’, from that perspective, meat is very valuable. Some people translate it as being the result of agriculture, but the meaning of the words could also imply he just picked up some random fruit that had fallen off the tree, so minimal to no effort (the words literally translated mean he ‘gathered fruits from the earth’)
Even if you want to take ‘god’ out of it, it is rich in meaning, without putting ‘effort’ into things people aren’t going to accept your work, but you can’t then be jealous if your work doesn’t get accepted. The rest of the story of punishment and walking the earth unable to be killed/die etc, again, lots of ‘lore’ to go into and if you think about it, given this is one of the first stories, you can deduce from it why certain laws keep coming back in every civilization.

If you’ve read through the 50 pages of the decision, you can clearly see the bias. 5 witnesses were simply ignored, including 3 experts because they were white and did not toe the line of DEI. The defense said “look at what other evil things were said by other people” and “this is okay because it was during Apartheid” the court decided simply that “well, if they did it, so can you” without any further argument, evidence that this was not discriminatory.
The leap of faith you have to make to come to the agreement where they clearly have to agree this was calling for violence and then “but bad things happened in the past so it’s okay”. It is exactly the DEI argument written into law. Both sides of this coin can be bad, apartheid is bad, the Zimbabwe president call for his machine(gun) as they stated as a defense that this happens in other countries, is bad too, that does not make a modern reinterpretation of Kill the Boer, (which they admit at one point meant Kill the Whites back during Apartheid) “good”.
